Pemba


Pemba comes from a poor family. Both his father and mother died when he was very small and leaving him in the care of relatives. He studied up to class five and discontinued his study to help his aunt in the farm fields.  His enthusiastic and interest to learn kept him exploring for opportunities leading him to CTAS.
Pemba graduated from CTAS in 2006. Right after his graduation, he became employed with a private Handicraft Company (Sangay Handicraft) in Thimphu. Today he is doing very well and earns slightly more than NU. 10,000 a month. He is able to support his younger brother and his relatives back at home. He is now happily married with a kid and leading a successful life.

Passang Tshering


Passang Tshering is 15 years old.  He is from Jangchay Kha village which is located in Central Bhutan. He is presently studying in the 4th Year at CTAS.  Passang was 9 years old when his farther passed away.  His mother is half paralyzed and cannot speak properly. He has one elder brother who is two years older than him and a younger sister. Passang and his siblings are taken care of by their grandmother who already has three children of her own to look after. They only have a small plot of land to till for their living. The grandmother couldn’t afford to send them to school given the financial difficulties.

When Passang first came to CTAS he had no knowledge of art and craft work. However, he is a very hard working boy and, over the years, he has acquired vast knowledge, adequate enough to get him small jobs during the school vacation.  He engages himself in carrying out painting works such as houses, mask and decoration items which fetch him pocket money to meet his own expenses and also to support his grandmother and family at the village.
