The New Classroom Project at CTAS

With an ever increasing student population, CTAS was confronted with the challenge of inadequate space for classes especially as the existing two-storied, mud brick classroom building was heavily damaged by an earthquake in September 2011. Thankfully two generous CTAS donors, Alan & Patricia Bickell, established a challenge grant to demolish the damaged building and build a new concrete three-storied building in its place. Construction on the new classroom project commenced in 2019 and was progressing on schedule until mandatory nationwide lockdowns in the spring of 2020 brought all construction to a temporary halt.

With inclusion of the matching grant funds from Alan and Patricia, CTAS has received over USD $445,000 in total which will support the construction of the new classroom building. Thanks to the generosity of our matching grant sponsors and all of the individual donors and supporters, this new building will become an iconic monument and centerpiece of the campus at CTAS as well as a place to showcase the artwork and talent of the students.

The new building will allow for dedicated spaces for 6th and 7th level painting students, a library room, a tailoring classroom (which when shifted to the newly constructed classroom will free up space for ten additional girls to join CTAS), a creativity classroom, a dedicated IT classroom, a conference room, additional restroom facilities, attic space to be used for visiting guests, and a staff room.
