Sponsor a Kailash Kid

Most of our children come to Kailash Home at the age of 5 or 6 and stay with us through grade 12 graduation. Our sponsorship program pairs individual sponsors with children at the time of their arrival for a minimum 6 year commitment at just over $2,000/year. Our main goal is to provide all of our children with a stable family environment at Kailash and a longterm connection with their sponsor.

Throughout sponsorship HYF provides details of each child’s progress in school and at Kailash Home. Individual dialogue between the sponsor and child via letters, emails, and video calls is actively encouraged. A number of sponsors have even chosen to visit Nepal to meet their Kailash Kids in person, and some go on to continue supporting and communicating with their children even after they leave Kailash Home.

We are currently accepting applications for 2024-2025 Sponsors!

Sponsor a Kailash Grad

Following their graduation from the 12th grade and departure from Kailash, many of our children go on to continue their education in secondary or vocational schools while others immediately launch professional careers. Regardless of their specific path, our young people often continue to need our support. For under $3,000/year sponsorship covers a variety of expenses potentially including university tuition, on the job training or internship programs, and books and other supplies, depending on the student. Unlike our Kailash Kid Sponsorship, our Graduate Program has no minimum annual commitment, generally lasting between one and four years, and donations can be made in any increment at any time. This giving opportunity is ideal for friends of HYF who want to support our young people in a more flexible way without the additional responsibilities and time commitment of sponsoring a younger child. We aim to provide all of our graduates with continued opportunities to succeed and excel even after they have moved on from Kailash Home and their traditional sponsorship support has ended.

“While on a visit to Nepal, a freak blizzard in Mustang re-routed my traveling group to the remote region of Dhorpatan, which was also the home of one of our guides, a young man named Yungdung Samten who happened to be an alumni of Kailash Home. Yungdung’s Tibetan refugee family was helping to raise a little Hindu stable boy named Milan.  In his short life, Milan had already suffered an unimaginable amount of trauma, and his story reached directly into my heart. Seeing the bright light in this little man's eyes, I inquired if there was a way in which I might support him as a spiritual mother - Amma, in Nepal - so that I might be in his life beyond the transactional check writing sponsor. The Himalayan Youth Foundation proved to be the perfect fit with its wonderful Kailash School. I recently traveled with my daughter to visit Milan at Kailash during Tibetan New Year, and I always look forward to our weekly video chats. I feel such gratitude that HYF has not only provided Milan with a safe home, quality education, and a brighter future but has also allowed me to remain so wonderfully connected with him throughout the years. I am so happy to be on this lifelong journey with Milan as a part of his extended family.”

“I believe that one of the most gratifying things in life is to know that you have made a difference. HYF presented me with this opportunity after I learned about the incredible things Micheline was doing to change the lives of so many children at Kailash Home in Kathmandu. She and I arrived there at sunrise one morning in May 2015, just after a second horrific earthquake had threatened the lives of so many people and caused incredible destruction throughout Nepal. It was during that two-week stay that I first met ‘my daughter’ and ‘my son’ – the children I have sponsored for years, Sonam and Yungdung. My entire experience with HYF has changed my life. Namaste.”

“HYF caught my attention from the first contact. The celebration of 20 years of Kailash Home showed the extraordinary result obtained by the work of the foundation as all of the children, from the youngest to the alumni returned for the occasion, actively participated in creating a joyful atmosphere and shared their pride to belong to what they consider to be their second home. It was impressive! The two boys, Topke and Finjo, whom I have supported since their arrival after the 2015 earthquake caused the loss of both their family and home, have integrated perfectly into the system at Kailash. They were keen to help the youngest children and were diligent in their studies. Their significant efforts have paid off since both are now embarking on higher education. They express their gratitude to us with great kindness in their letters. and it was a great joy for me to meet them in their living environment and to see them at work.”

“While traveling in the Himalayas nearly a decade ago I fell in love with the region, culture, and the people. I also saw the challenges and poverty facing the people — particularly the children. Put in touch with the Himalayan Youth Foundation through a friend, we have since sponsored two children, Ngawang and Chriing, and have been lucky enough to visit Kailash Home to see them growing and learning. Over the years we’ve also watched Kailash grow and expanding into the several new buildings. Working with HYF, I have been able to host some groups from my firm in Nepal to bring our next generation of leaders to see how they can grow their philanthropy and impact the lives of those less fortunate than themselves.”

If you’re ready to take the next step, have questions, or just need a little more information, the HYF team is here to help. Sponsorship of one of our Kailash Kids is a commitment that comes with invaluable benefits, and the work of the foundation would be impossible without the generosity of our sponsors.
